PLUM Product Service Bulletin / November 22, 2000
Effective Friday December 30, 2000 Invatron will no longer ship the Access database with any of its PLUM product. Past experience has shown Microsoft's Access database to be unstable in some environments. In the interests of customer satisfaction, Invatron will meet retailer requirements through other means.
Starting on January 1, 2001 all PLUM products for Windows will ship with a Sybase database unless customers request a specific platform. The PLUM Store application will come with a royalty-free runtime version of Sybase for single users. The Plum Host application for multiple users will require a full version of Sybase, which is licensed separately.
Customers currently using an Access database will need an upgrade to enjoy any future PLUM enhancements. Store users with a current maintenance agreement will be eligible for a free PLUM upgrade that includes the Sybase runtime version until March 31, 2001. Host users with a current maintenance agreement are also eligible for a free PLUM upgrade. Licensing for the full database version of Sybase is extra.
Invatron can help customers smooth out the transition process with our custom data conversion utilities. Contact our Support Department for more information.
