Gelson's Rolls Out PLUM / October, 2001
Gelson's Markets of Encino California has chosen PLUM to help manage its fresh food services. Gelson's is a full-service supermarket chain specializing in the highest quality of shopping experiences. Each location is renowned for superior product, selection and service. The company was founded in 1951 by brothers Bernard and Eugene Gelson and currently operates as a subsidiary of Arden Group, Inc.
Gelson's rollout includes a PLUM Host with 18 PLUM Store installations on a Windows 2000 operating system and Sequel database. A custom interface will connect PLUM to the BASS item management application ensuring 100% data integrity. This provides a single point of entry for staff to add new items and manage PLU Item details such as PLU, UPC, and product description. Items are then imported from BASS to PLUM and transmitted to the weigh-labeling equipment. The end result is a complete match between items in the POS and the scales.
Gelson's joins a PLUM user group of nearly 40 supermarket retail chains across North America. In addition, Invatron has recently introduced the industry to our PeriScope DSS application for Fresh Food Management. The response to shrink management and production forecasting has made PeriScope one of the most exciting products to hit the supermarket industry in recent memory.
