Canadian Nutritional Labelling added to ePLUM, PLUM Host and PLUM Store / October 2005
Invatron is pleased to announce that support for Canadian Nutritional Labelling has been added to our ePLUM, PLUM Host and PLUM Store applications. Support is currently available for scale equipment from hardware suppliers including Hobart, Digi, and Toledo. Invatron will be extending this support to other primary hardware suppliers such as Bizerba and TEC within the coming weeks. PLUM users will need to verify with their respective scale vendors whether their existing scale inventory is eligible for a firmware upgrade necessary to support the Nutritional Labelling Requirements. Nutritional Panels have been supported through PLUM in the US marketplace for several years but some distinct differences within the Canadian requirements necessitated changes to both the PLUM applications and the scale vendors proprietary firmware.
Safeway and Sobeys took an early pro-active position on Nutritional Labelling and as a consequence clearly expedited the combined efforts of both Invatron and the scale hardware providers to facilitate a complete solution in response to the legislation. The Nutrition Facts table, consisting of the declaration of energy (Calories) and 13 nutrients, will become mandatory for most prepackaged foods beginning December 12, 2005. By centrally managing nutritional data through PLUM retailers eliminate the potential for incorrect label errors and the associated logistical challenges of managing a pre-printed label inventory for each required product at store level.
Canada’s new nutrition labelling regulations have been designed to provide a system for conveying information about the nutrient content of food in a standardized format, which allows for comparison among foods at the point of purchase. Clear, uniform information should support consumers in making informed food choices toward healthy eating goals and ultimately lead to increased customer satisfaction.

Its latest offering, PeriScope DSS, provides a complete decision-support system to meet sales demands under varying market conditions. For more information, please visit: www.invatron.com.
